Now the GAZ company is focused on the development of a range of commercial vehicles such as the GAZelle. However, the collaboration with Volkswagen, which has an MQB platform, could pay off. It is possible that in the future the brand will have its own crossover, the renderings of which have already been presented by our independent designer.
Despite the fact that modern SUVs most often turn out to be similar to each other, the new GAZ-66 2021-2022 has a couple of features that distinguish it from competitors. First, it received a lengthened roofline and bonnet. This decision will have a positive effect on the aerodynamic performance of the car. Secondly, the model is likely to be equipped with a 3-row cabin with 7 seats. At the same time, the dimensions of the SUV allow the seats to be installed at a sufficient distance from each other, which will provide comfort for all passengers. Thirdly, the body of the model is practically devoid of additional stampings, which makes it more sporty.
As already mentioned, the new GAZ-66 2021-2022 crossover will be built on the MQB platform, and it can share the motor line with the Volkswagen Tiguan. That is, the base unit will be a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that develops up to 150 hp. power. The option of the appearance under the hood of a novelty of a newly developed supercharged unit for 1.5 liters of the same power is not excluded.
In addition to the specified engine for the first crossover, GAZ can prepare a 2-liter turbo engine with a maximum output of 180 or 220 hp, depending on its version. Each of these units comes with a 7-speed robotic gearbox, which is combined for an additional charge with all-wheel drive, implemented through a multi-plate clutch.
