Despite the many statements that UAZ made before, the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant never entered the crossover segment. Today the company specializes in the production of full-fledged off-road vehicles, which include both the Patriot and the Pickup. Both cars are practically copies of each other. The difference between the models lies only in the fact that the second, due to the presence of a loading platform, is slightly longer than the first.
Among the disadvantages of the Russian pickup (as well as the SUV) is the fact that it is poorly suited for urban conditions. At the same time, the opposite trend is observed in the world today. A number of manufacturers have already begun developing or producing pickups designed for daily use, including in urban conditions. Such models, in particular, include the Hyundai Santa Cruz. In this regard, the independent designer has published a series of renderings of the new UAZ Patriot Pickup 2021-2022, which can also be operated in urban environments. Moreover, this event happened before the Ulyanovsk plant itself updates its SUV.
This statement is supported by the compact size of the car. Unlike the current pickup, the presented new product has a two-seater cab and a more compact cargo platform. Also, this car stands out with a body designed in the style of modern crossovers, which once again confirms the statement made: this model was created for daily travel.
As conceived by the author, the new pickup looks nothing like other UAZ cars. By default, it is equipped with fully LED lighting equipment, some of which, presented in the form of thin strips, are located in wide niches built into the front bumper. The second distinctive feature of the novelty is a huge radiator grille with small horizontal lamellas.
Despite the fact that the UAZ Patriot Pickup 2021-2022, as noted, is designed for urban conditions, it can be operated off-road. This is indicated by the high ground clearance and the presence of a wide plastic body kit. Probably, in the case of the implementation of the presented project, the new pickup truck will borrow the proprietary all-wheel drive from the Patriot. Most likely, both models will share the motor range. At least, UAZ today cannot offer its customers other engines, except for the 2.7-liter "aspirated" ZMZ-409. Accordingly, the maximum power of the engine installed on the new pickup will not exceed 135 or 150 hp, depending on its modification.
