Most recently, the debut of the South Korean crossover KIA Carnival took place in the Russian car market. This car, which was released in the fourth generation, has a very stylish appearance, as well as the most modern level of equipment and technical capabilities. It is designed for family, business trips, etc.
At the same time, a couple of months ago, the network showed renders of the new GAZ-2217 Sobol 2021-2022, which is expected to appear on the market as a full-fledged minivan. Judging by the images, experts expect to see in it a stylish enough model that can compete with the recent market debut from KIA.
To more accurately understand what each of the models is and in whose favor their opposition may end, we will try to compare them.
Design
The exterior and interior decoration of the Korean crossover is its strong point. The new KIA Carnival looks luxurious and attractive from the outside and, unlike classic crossovers, does not have a sporty note in its appearance.
The interior of the car also looks expensive, even considering the fact that not all materials used in the interior decoration are of premium quality. It can be seen that the developers, creating this model, took care of the comfort of the Carnival passengers, equipping it with everything necessary for a confident ride and maximum safety.
Depending on the equipment level, KIA Carnival is available in the Russian car market in a seven- or eight-seater interior design.
As for the design of the GAZ-2217 Sobol 2021-2022, then, judging by the published renders, it will have an appearance close to all minivans currently on the market. Of course, in comparison with its predecessor, the new Sobol turned out to be much more modern and attractive, but it is rather difficult to compare it with the KIA Carnival.
While elegance and style prevail in the look of the "Korean", for the new Sobol the manufacturer has focused on dynamics and a sporty component. This is manifested in the piled-up front pillars, due to which the minivan was equipped with a large windshield. Also noteworthy here is the elongated bonnet and large head optics.
The side part of the Sobol-2217 will receive sliding doors, which will provide a comfortable fit into the cabin.
The only really weak point of the minivan is the awkward design of the stern with very wide rear pillars and small vertical taillights, as well as a steep tailgate with an angular relief.
The interior of the updated GAZ Sobol-2217 is still classified, but, of course, in comparison with the current version, it will receive a more modern design. But the landing for 7 or 11 seats, according to experts, should be preserved.
Specifications
The engine range of the new KIA Carnival, available in the Russian automotive market, consists of a 2.2-liter diesel power unit and a 3.5-liter gas engine.
The diesel version develops a power of 199 horsepower and a torque of 440 N * m. Its average fuel consumption is declared at 6.5 liters per 100 km, and acceleration to "hundreds" is achieved in 10, 7 seconds. A pair of such an engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
The performance of the 3.5-liter petrol engine is 249 "horses", and its torque is 331 N * m. Here the declared average consumption is 10.3 liters of gasoline, but the cross-van accelerates to 100 km / h in just 8.5 seconds. Together with the gas engine, the same 8-speed "automatic" and the front-wheel drive system interact.
Also, the car relies on electronic power steering, replacing the more ancient hydraulics.
The capabilities of the Russian GAZ-2217 Sobol 2021-2022 of the new generation have not yet been disclosed, but analysts assume that it will get the same technical capabilities as the current generation. This means that in the base the car will be equipped with an atmospheric power unit UMZ-A274 of 2, 7 liters, the capacity of which is 107 horsepower.
As an alternative, the buyer will have the right to purchase a model with a diesel 2, 8-liter engine with a capacity of 128 "horses".
Regardless of the type of engine, the minivan relies on a 5-speed manual transmission and a leading rear-wheel drive. However, on request, the Sable can also be purchased in an all-wheel drive version.
Terms of debut on the market and the cost of models
As you know, the new KIA Carnival has already gone on sale in Russia. The new cross-van, assembled at the facilities of the Kaliningrad Avtotor, is available in five different trim levels, the price of which ranges from 2, 6 to 3, 6 million rubles.
But it's too early to talk about the timing of the debut of the updated version of the GAZ-2217 Sobol 2021-2022. No official data on this matter has yet been released. Experts suggest that the car's premiere should take place next year.
As for the possible cost of the car, then everything will depend on the level of equipment and characteristics that the developer will offer him.
