Despite the fact that the 2022 Volkswagen Passat is more expensive than the Toyota Camry or Mazda 6 (prices for the German model start at 2.15 million rubles), the sedan offers better equipment than direct competitors. One of the main features of the 2022 Volkswagen Passat, released in a new body, is an improved passive safety complex. At the same time, in the photo, the sedan looks almost the same as its predecessor. As part of the latest series of improvements, the manufacturer made changes to the configuration and prices, also slightly adjusting the technical characteristics. The German model has lost a manual gearbox: now all modifications use a 7-speed "robot" with a double clutch.

As before, the Passat is based on the proprietary MQB platform with McPherson A-pillars and rear multi-link architecture. The length of the German sedan reaches 4767 mm, width - 1832 mm, height - 1456 mm. The wheelbase is 2791 mm.

The basic version of the Passat is equipped with a 150-horsepower 1.5-liter supercharged engine. Its declared maximum torque is 250 N * m. A sedan with such a motor gains the first 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds, consuming an average of 5.8 liters. In more expensive versions, a second supercharged engine with a volume of 2 liters appears. This motor develops no more than 190 hp. with a maximum thrust of 320 N * m. A Passat with such a unit gains 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds, consuming about 6.3 liters of fuel.

In a number of countries, the German model is available with a 2-liter turbodiesel engine, which is combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It develops up to 175 hp. and 350 N * m. Also available on the European market is the Passat GTE with a hybrid powertrain based on a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine and one electric motor. The maximum output of the first is 156 hp, the second - 115 hp. Together, both units produce up to 218 hp. and 330 N * m.

Options and prices

The 2022 Volkswagen Passat is presented in Russia in three trim levels. A more powerful turbo engine is not available with the initial version.

The basic version of the German model costs almost 2, 15 million rubles. By default, the sedan is equipped with:

For the top version of the Volkswagen Passat in 2022, they are asking for almost 2.44 million rubles in Russia. This amount includes adaptive matrix head optics, 17-inch wheel rims and an electric tailgate with a contactless opening function. For a surcharge, the top version offers seats upholstered in Alcantara, a head-up display and an electric sunroof. In the top version, you can also find an 11, 7-inch digital instrument panel, an engine start button and keyless entry. A remotely controlled parking heater is available as an option.

Safety

The new Passat leaves a mixed impression in terms of safety. The German model is equipped with a variety of electronic systems and driver assistants, which significantly increase the level of security. However, in the "moose" test, the sedan showed that it was not able to keep a straight line when maneuvering. During such a test, the German model began to skid at a speed of 73 km / h, which is a bad indicator even for cheaper cars. But the Passsat has recently been complemented by a reinforced roll cage that reduces the likelihood of damage in frontal collisions.

Handling and off-road performance

The clearance of the German model reaches 160 mm. In this regard, the Passat is completely unsuitable for off-road use. But on the track and in the city, the German model demonstrates good qualities. In particular, as noted above, on-board electronics, interacting with GPS, are able to slow down the car when approaching road junctions.

The updated Passat also leaves an ambiguous impression on a flat road. More precisely, the German model fully meets the requirements for high-quality cars. She is ready to accurately carry out any commands. But in the German sedan there is no "zest", as motorists say. On the other hand, depending on the selected driving mode, the behavior of the Passat changes noticeably. When translated into sporty, the throttle response is sharper. At the same time, there are changes in the settings of the steering, shock absorbers, suspension and other components.

However, tests have shown that the Passat is better suited for a comfortable ride than drag racing. The German novelty does not hold a straight line well when maneuvering, even at relatively low speeds.

Advantages and disadvantages

Passat has a lot of advantages, among which the following can be noted:

• good overclocking dynamics for its class;
• low fuel consumption;
• comfortable and ergonomic interior;
• steering, engine and transmission settings change depending on the driving mode;
• comfortable suspension.

But for Russia, the main drawback of the Passat is its low ground clearance. On the other hand, the car is equipped with Volkswagen-standard engines, suspension and transmissions, and therefore the costs of repairing the sedan will be relatively low.

Design

Passat has a classic Volkswagen and a fairly simple appearance. In particular, the body of the German model is not replete with stampings and complex transitions. The sedan is equipped with a narrowed head optics, which in the top versions changes to matrix headlights. It is combined with the extended grille into one unit. The front bumper is now complemented by a wide air intake that covers almost the entire area. On the sides of it are relatively large fog lights. The rear part of the body is even simpler, where there are large lamps and a slightly curving bumper with two large exhaust pipes.

The interior of the German model stands out for its ergonomic design. Despite the fact that the sedan received 2 displays and one projection screen that extends above the dashboard, Volkswagen has supplemented the Passat with many physical keys. Their appearance is largely due to the requirements of the main buyers of the German model, who prefer cars with a classic design. In the course of the last modernization, the wheelbase of the Passat slightly increased, which made the landing in the second row more comfortable.

Sales start

In the course of the latest modernization, the Passat lost only a manual gearbox. In this regard, the car in this version is already being sold on the Russian market.
