The second generation of Land Rover Defender was created from scratch and does not have any similar details with the model of the previous generation. The only thing that unites them is that they are both suitable for use in any road and weather conditions. The Land Rover Defender of 2021 on the Russian market is presented in nine trim levels and, although official sales in our country have not yet started, the prices for the model are already known. The basic version of Land Rover Defender will be sold at a price of 4 million rubles, while the British automaker has set a price of 7 million rubles for the maximum version. The novelty, unlike its predecessor, was developed not on a frame, but on the basis of a monocoque body, which is built on an aluminum D7x platform. It has been specially strengthened for the possibility of using the car on harsh off-road conditions. The main competitors of the novelty are Toyota Highlander and Nissan Patrol.

Options and prices

Land Rover Defender 2021 received a new body, the main feature of which is the "floating" struts. The model is available in two wheelbases: a short three-door and a long five-door. By tradition, they are designated by indices 90 and 110, respectively. Even in the photo, the Land Rover Defender looks brutal, and under the hood of each of its configurations, high-performance power units are installed, of which three are available for the domestic market. The technical characteristics of each of them will be discussed in this article. First, let's talk about Land Rover Defender trim levels and their prices.

Base

The basic equipment of the Land Rover Defender is estimated at 4.06 million rubles. And the car in this version is powered by a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine. It is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The drive is only full. The basic equipment of the model looks impressive. The SUV is available on 18-inch alloy wheels, with electric power steering assisting the driver to turn the wheels. Exterior lighting in this version is fully LED. It includes: head optics, DRL and taillights. Meanwhile, the aft PTF and the additional brake light on the trunk lid are not LED. Also available for the model are headlight washers and rain and light sensors. The exterior mirrors of the SUV will not be painted in body color. Nevertheless, an electric drive and heating will be available for them. In addition, there will also be a heated rear window. Roof rails are available as an option.

The interior of the 2021 Land Rover Defender will consist of fabric upholstery. But the steering wheel will be leather braided and it will be mechanically adjustable. In terms of standard equipment, the S version is offered on the outside with 19-inch aluminum wheels. At this point, all the changes to the exterior can be considered complete. Inside, everything is different. The interior has a combination of upholstery and a dividing armrest at the front. In addition, there is a color multifunctional display on the center panel inside.

S version with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel power unit with 200 hp. and an automatic transmission costs 4, 36 million rubles. For the petrol modification with a mild hybrid volume of 3.0 liters and a capacity of 400 hp. and also with an 8-speed automatic transmission will have to pay from 5.23 million rubles. And the version with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 249 hp. estimated at 4, 854 million rubles.

X-Dynamic S

The X-Dynamyc S version is offered with diesel engines only. For a less powerful 200-horsepower version, an official Land Rover dealer asks for 4.58 million rubles, while a 3.0-liter modification with 249 hp. costs 5.08 million rubles. The complete set can optionally order a panoramic roof. Moreover, inside the base there are front ventilated seats with memory and a dividing armrest at the rear. In addition, the interior in this version will have leather trim. And to the electronic safety systems, automatic high-beam control has been added.

SE

The SE trim is offered at a price of 4.8 million rubles for the version with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 200 hp, 5.8 million rubles are asked for a 3.0-liter petrol modification with 400 hp. and 5.3 million rubles for a variation with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with 249 hp. In this configuration, the wheels acquire 20-inch aluminum wheels and foglights appear in front. The interior will have a combination of upholstery, but there will be no ventilation for the front seats. There will also be no autonomous high-beam control systems, but the control of "blind" zones will be added. It will also feature a 10-speaker Meridian premium audio system.

X-Dynamic SE

The X-Dynamic SE is considered to be an intermediate package for the 2021 Land Rover Defender. The modification is also available with a choice of three engines. With a 2.0-liter 200 hp diesel engine. the model costs 5.024 million rubles, for the version with a 400 hp gasoline power unit. they ask for 6.025 million rubles, and a variation with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel is estimated at 5.52 million rubles. Leather upholstery, front seat ventilation and a high-beam control system are available for equipment. In addition, a panoramic roof can be ordered as an option.

First Edition

The First Edition is only available with two top-end motors. The petrol modification will cost 6.1 million rubles, and a variation with a top-end turbodiesel with 249 hp. sold at a price of 5.66 million rubles. The panoramic roof in this version will be supplied in the base, but there will be no automatic high-beam control system.

HSE

X-Dynamic HSE

The pre-top X-Dynamic HSE is also available with just one 3.0-liter 249 hp turbo diesel. The complete set boasts the presence of a combined upholstery and an autonomous high-beam control system. For these changes, the manufacturer set the price of the model at 5, 9 million rubles.

X

The top modification of the Land Rover Defender model is provided only with a petrol 3.0-liter power unit with 400 hp, an 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. This price includes a head-up display on the windshield, leather upholstery, the same Meridian audio system, but now with 14 speakers.

Technically, the 2021 Land Rover Defender is a 5-seater SUV with a monocoque body. Its ground clearance is 218 mm. It is equipped with three powerful engines, an automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system. All models, regardless of variation, are equipped with air suspension. In addition, the car has a front independent suspension with double wishbones, the rear - a conventional multi-link. The brake system is ventilated disc in a circle, and the parking brake is electric.

The luggage compartment with a volume of 857 liters will accommodate almost everything that is useful on a trip, both off-road and on a suburban highway. But if that's not enough, you can always fold the third row of seats and get a whopping 1,946 liters of usable space. This volume is achieved, among other things, due to the considerable dimensions of the model. Its length / width / height are 4 758/2 008/1 967 mm, respectively, and the length of the wheelbase reaches 3022 mm. Model weight - 3022 kg. The volume of the fuel tank is 83 liters.

Now let's talk about the powertrains of the model. So the base 2.0-liter 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine generates 200 hp. and 430 N * m of torque. It works with an 8-speed “automatic” that sends power to the four-wheel drive system. It should be said that only all-wheel drive transmission is available for all engines. The specified motor complies with the Euro-5 environmental standard. Another diesel engine fully complies with the above, but only its volume is 3.0 liters, and accordingly its power is increased and is 249 hp. and 570 N * m of torque.

The top engine is more interesting. It is a petrol 6-cylinder power unit with two turbines. Its volume is 3.0 liters. The motor generates 400 hp. and as much as 550 N * m of torque. It is also connected to all-wheel drive via an 8-speed automatic transmission. By the way, this power unit complies with the Euro-5 environmental standard.

Handling and off-road performance

The new Land Rover Defender waddles and wobbles slightly on the track, but handling is very clear and precise. It is very comfortable to be in the cabin, and this is not surprising, because the car is built on the same platform as the Discovery 5, but only modernized to the maximum. But off-road, the model behaves just fine. Due to the minimum overhangs, both in front and in the back, as well as high ground clearance, the novelty overcomes entry and exit angles of 38 and 40 mm, respectively. This is not a very bad indicator at the present time. In addition, the manufacturer claims that the ford depth of the new Defender is 900 mm, and it should be noted that this figure refers specifically to the standard version of the car without a snorkel.

Maintenance costs

The new Land Rover Defender is not the cheapest pleasure to maintain, but in any case it is more reliable than its civilian counterparts such as the Discovery. The maximum speed of the model will be 175 km / h, and the average diesel consumption is set at 7, 7 liters per 100 kilometers.

The next 3.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine also features twin turbocharging and an 8-speed "automatic". Its peak power is already 249 hp. and 570 N * m of torque. The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h for this version is 8.3 seconds. The maximum speed in comparison with the base engine increases to 188 km / h, and the fuel consumption remains the same - 7, 7 liters per 100 km.

The top-of-the-line powertrain is a mild hybrid setup based on a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine. The 8-speed automatic transmission is the same as in the diesel versions, as is the all-wheel drive system. In order to accelerate the Land Rover Defender from 0 to 100 km / h, this engine takes only 6.1 seconds. The maximum speed is 191 km / h, and the fuel consumption here will be significantly higher than on diesel engines, and will amount to 9.9 liters per 100 km.

Design

Outwardly, the model looks great. It has a boxy silhouette, typical of most SUVs. At the front are rectangular headlights with LED daytime running lights in an unfinished circle. The radiator grille has small slots for air intake, and the DEFENDER lettering is located on the edge of the hood in its entire width. At the rear, a large, full-size spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate. In addition, the aft lanterns have an original light pattern in the form of rectangles. In the lower part of the body, along the entire perimeter of the model, there is a protective edging made of black plastic, which also covers the extended wheel arches.

In the salon of the model, everything is done in a strict style. A four-spoke multifunction steering wheel is located in front of the motorist, and behind it is a digital instrument panel. A multimedia system screen is installed on the center console, under which, for greater convenience, there is a climate control console tilted towards the driver and a selector for switching the operating ranges of the "machine" on it. A wide dividing armrest is located between the front seats.
