Motorists with long experience, who consider themselves full-fledged experts, are confident that it is possible to defeat the "maslozhor" of an engine with high mileage by pouring thicker oil. At the same time, such garage experts are actively promoting their opinions. Often inexperienced beginners pick it up, forgetting that the situation has two sides of the coin. The use of a thicker oil in the case of "butter oil" is actual on the old-style internal combustion engine.

Those motors took care of 500 and more thousand kilometers without any problems. Modern power units are extremely rarely capable of such feats without major repairs in the middle of the distance. For older engines, the thicker oil improved the lubrication of worn friction elements without overspending. It is also worth recalling that modern internal combustion engines have a slightly different device.
As a consequence, using a thicker oil may not solve the problem, but, on the contrary, aggravate it. The use of such a lubricant can lead to the fact that the rubbing elements will work practically dry. In other words, thick oil simply will not circulate properly through the appropriate channels of the installation. Considering all of the above, we can come to the conclusion that in modern cars it will not be possible to cope with such a problem as "oil consumption" by increasing the density of the lubricant.

First of all, you will have to look for the cause of the appearance of such a problem. If we take into account the old-style power units, which were designed for more serious periods of operation without major repairs, then for them the change in the density of the lubricant is provided not for the minimum mileage, but only at the moment when the car has already covered 350 or more thousand kilometers … Otherwise, you may encounter other additional problems.
