Almost all modern motorists are aware that high-voltage wires play an important role in the ignition system. However, not everyone has an idea of when these elements are replaced and how their functionality is checked. It should be understood that the integrity of the insulation is assessed first of all. To perform the necessary manipulations, it is necessary to determine the value of the resistance.

As a rule, on cars with an injection system, high-voltage wires have a standard resistance of 5 - 8 kOhm. In the event that the indicator is noticeably higher than the indicated values, you may encounter such a problem as insufficient spark on the spark plug at the time of fuel combustion. In turn, this will affect the correct operation of the power unit, and it will be possible to observe misfires in the ignition.

Of course, not every car enthusiast has the equipment in his arsenal to measure the resistance of wires. That is why you can use a different, simpler technique. To do this, you will have to build an auxiliary device. The device includes a metal hook, a crocodile hook, and an insulated wire. The device must be assembled in a serial circuit.

Further, to check, you will have to connect the hook to one end of the high-voltage wire, and the "crocodile" to the other side of it. The "crocodile" itself is fixed on the mass. Next, you need to start the power unit and at the time of its operation you will have to drive the hook over the entire surface of the high-voltage wire. If at a certain moment a spark flies through, then we can safely speak of a violation of the integrity of the insulation. This wire must be replaced. It is worth noting that all work is carried out in rubber gloves so as not to get an electric shock.
