Edison Motors has begun accepting pre-orders in the South Korean market for the new Smart T1.0 electric truck. Moreover, the manufacturer said that it would not yet announce the start date of deliveries to buyers of this model. He also did not publish prices for his new product. The reasons for this decision have not been announced.
The assembly of the Edison Smart T1.0 one-ton truck started at the newly erected plant. The company said it plans to put 2,000 copies of the model on the market during 2021. In the future, the volume of production of this and other types of transport will increase to 300-500 thousand units.
Probably, the lack of information on the date of the start of deliveries of commercial samples of the electric truck is due to the fact that the plant where it is assembled has not yet reached its design capacity. Edison Motors still doubts that the facility will be able to quickly meet demand and will not encounter unexpected problems during the production process. It is known that the new truck is equipped with a chassis and an electric motor, which are supplied ready-made to the car plant from China. Together with this model comes a compact battery with a capacity of 51 kWh. The power reserve of the Edison Smart T1.0 is also not announced. It is reported that this model will be presented in two versions: with a cargo platform and a large metal compartment. But the manufacturer decided to hide its size.
Despite the relatively small volume of production, Edison Motors is able to become one of the leaders in the South Korean market for compact electric trucks. If the announced plan is implemented and all two thousand assembled copies of the new model are sold, the manufacturer will take a 10 percent share in this segment.
