Geely in Russia is known mainly as a manufacturer of crossovers based on the Volvo platform. However, it also sells commercial vehicles in the home market. Moreover, in this segment, Geely suddenly became the leader.
Recently, the demand for commercial vehicles in China has been falling. So, Geely last month sold about 315 thousand copies of such cars, which is 28% less than in the same period in 2020. But in comparison with the July results, the company sold 45% more units of commercial vehicles in August.
As a result, Geely's average monthly growth rate was 36.5%. But if we consider this parameter on an annualized basis, then the company was able to increase sales of commercial vehicles immediately by 1218%. As a result, in the first 6 months Geely sold 720% more of these cars than in the previous year.
As a result, the company has become a leader in the commercial vehicle segment. Geely has a 27 percent share of the Chinese market. It is also interesting that the company showed such results at a time when the commercial vehicle sector in China is undergoing possibly revolutionary changes. The Chinese authorities at all levels are currently introducing new environmental standards, due to which some manufacturers have had difficulties in adapting the model range to these standards. Geely, in turn, has taken advantage of the change to establish itself as China's premier commercial vehicle manufacturer.
The company recently announced that it plans to maintain its leadership position for at least the next ten years. Accordingly, in the near future, we can expect from Geely the appearance of new, more environmentally friendly commercial vehicles, including those on electricity.
