The Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared a new bill, according to which the traffic police will be able to withdraw the STS and suspend the operation of diagnostic cards in the event of malfunctions in cars. Moreover, the department is not limited to this only. According to the text of the bill, traffic police inspectors will be able to send a car for repairs and re-undergo technical inspection an unlimited number of times per year. That is, until the policeman is convinced that the car is in good working order, it cannot be operated.
Recall that in the previous version of the bill, presented at the end of 2020, it was indicated that traffic police inspectors can suspend the diagnostic card in case of defects in the car. If the owner does not eliminate the malfunction within three days, then the JTS must be withdrawn from him.
The new bill provides for the following: the driver loses the right to operate the car immediately after a malfunction is identified. An exception to this rule is when the defect can be repaired on site. In such situations, the traffic police inspector will have the right to issue a fine of 500 rubles.
The list of faults covered by the new standards is listed in the traffic rules: inoperative headlights, windshield wipers, and so on. If the driver eliminates the detected defect and successfully passes the inspection, then information about this is entered into the appropriate database, and the ban on the operation of the car is lifted immediately. However, only 72 hours are allocated for this, after which the STS will also be withdrawn. After that, the traffic police inspector within 24 hours must make the appropriate changes to the EAISTO, while in the previous version of the bill, this period was not determined.
