Perhaps every driver has come across a creak of brake pads, but not everyone knows that such a sound does not necessarily mean a sudden malfunction. As it turned out, in some cases, it is possible to eliminate the creak without visiting a car repair shop, with your own hands, and in just 5 minutes!

So, most often a similar sound appears with severe wear of parts. Some car owners, trying to save money, do not regularly diagnose the car and its parts; accordingly, it is not possible to assess the real wear of the components. Also, many people believe that brake pads can be used almost until they are completely abraded, which, of course, is not the case. They must be changed according to the regulations issued by the manufacturer, and in the case of gentle use, after a visual inspection.
But what if the pads were recently replaced, and the squeak is still present? In this case, there may be several reasons:
- features of the materials used in the manufacture of pads;
- incorrect installation.
If installed incorrectly, “work on mistakes” can get rid of the squeak, and if the pads make sounds due to the peculiarities of the materials used, then mechanics recommend manually smoothing their coating. This can be done with a simple file or coarse sandpaper.
In addition, vibration during movement contributes to the appearance of a squeak. Special plates, which are sold in any car store, will help to minimize it. They are not expensive, and installation will take a few minutes.
If the plates did not bring the desired result, then you can try to lubricate the surface of the pads with a special sticky grease. During operation, it has a liquid consistency, but later solidifies, eliminating creaking and unnecessary vibration.

Also, a similar sound occurs on those cars whose drivers use an aggressive driving style. It is worth remembering that sudden and frequent braking negatively affects the condition of many components, including the pads, so it is recommended to move smoothly and at a moderate speed. In this case, you will have to slow down less often, and you can save a lot on repairs.
In addition, mechanics recommend manually smoothing corners on new pads for smoother and smoother braking. You can also make small cuts in the center of their surface, which will have a positive effect on the braking process, and the squeak will no longer bother the driver and others.
