French auto brand Citroen announced the start of serial production of the new cross-wagon C5 X. It, as experts predict, should be the flagship in the company's lineup. The production of new items is organized in China at the facilities of the joint venture Citroen and Dongfeng.

It is expected that the production of this model will allow the developer from France to compensate for its lag in sales in the most dynamically developing segment of SUV representatives. The novelty, produced in the cross-wagon body, will be equipped with a power unit with a turbine from the PSA concern. Its pair will be an 8-speed automatic transmission from the Aisin company.

It is assumed that in September the first models will arrive at car dealerships in China. However, the manufacturer does not plan to limit itself to sales exclusively in the Middle Kingdom. It is reported that the Citroen C5 X cross, produced at facilities in the city of Chengdu, will be further sold both in the European and all Asian markets. The French automaker calls the model itself unique, combining the elegance of the sedan class with the dynamic performance of a station wagon and the driving capabilities of a crossover.

In addition, the manufacturer reports that in the near future the plant will also organize the production of a plug-in version of the cross-wagon. The decision to launch sales of new items in the Chinese car market is not accidental. Since 2015, this manufacturer has been rapidly losing its share in the Celestial Empire, and now the sale of new cars in this country is approaching the lowest values for the entire time of its presence here.
