German premium car manufacturer BMW has announced a massive recall campaign. It is associated with problems with the braking system of cars. Among the cars that have come under the recall are BMWs of the third, fifth and seventh series, X3, X4 crossovers, Z4 roadster and, suddenly, the current generation of Toyota Supra.

The reasons for the recall are that BMW has detected problems in the software of the engine control units. They do not interact correctly in certain circumstances with the brakes, which can lead to system failure and, accordingly, a dangerous situation on the road. The recall included BMW M340i and M340 xDrive, produced between February 21, 2019 and July 28, 2020 (10,877 cars in total). This includes the X4 M40i crossovers that rolled off the assembly line between September 3, 2019 and June 22, 2021 (4,134 vehicles).

This is followed by the fifth series BMW 540i / 540i xDrive cars, which were produced between June 11, 2019 and June 26, 2020. A total of 5375 cars. The executive sedan BMW 745Le eDrive, which was released from February 11, 2019 to February 22, 2021, was also included in this category. 470 cars were recalled. The executive "seven" was followed by the compact crossover X3 M40i, released from August 16, 2019 to June 22, 2021. A total of 14006 cars. The BMW Z4 M40i Roadster, released from February 21, 2019 to June 18, 2021 (2,151 cars), closes the list.

It would seem, what does the Japanese Supra have to do with it? Yes, the fact is that it is built on the basis of the BMW Z4 roadster and shares with it not only the platform and engine, but also many technical solutions that both Toyota specialists and Bavarians worked on. Therefore, she has the same problems as her German counterpart. The recall included cars produced in the period from February 6, 2019 to June 10, 2021. A total of 13014 cars.
