New BMW 2-Series 2022 for Russia: what makes the Bavarian one of the best cars on the market?

The Munich Automobile Plant BMW has long specialized in the production of luxury models in the prestigious classes, regardless of the demand for compact cars. However, due to not the best sales figures, in the early 2010s, the management decided to develop not only D, E and more presentable classes, but also to fill the C segment of the market. As a result, the 2-Series model was released. At the moment, the BMW 2-Series 2022 car is sold in Russia in the first generation in a restyled version. The car competes with Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Audi A3, Mazda 3 and Toyota Corolla. The model is presented on the market in coupe and sedan bodies at a price of 2,390,000 to 4,850,000 rubles.

Specifications

To consider the technical characteristics of the BMW 2-Series 2022 car is in the sedan version, since this is the most relevant option for buying in Russia. In the domestic market, a model in a new body has been sold recently, but has already managed to establish itself. In many ways, the car stands out due to its reasonable prices and luxurious trim levels. For the domestic market, the German is equipped with two power units to choose from, which has an important impact on the final cost. You can find this car on sale from:

• 1.5-liter petrol turbocharged engine with 140 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque;
• 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 306 "horses" and 450 Nm of torque.

It is noteworthy that other engines are provided for versions in the coupe body ("turbodiesel" for 2.0 and 3.0 liters). With a weaker engine, a 7-speed robot and front-wheel drive are combined. In more powerful versions, four-wheel drive and an 8-speed "automatic".

The German model for the Russian market received standard dimensions for its class. The car reaches 4 526 mm in length, 800 mm in width, and 1,420 mm in height. The wheelbase of the sedan is 2,670 mm. The ground clearance is standard - 152 mm. The curb weight of this model depends on the selected engine and drive type - 1,450 and 1,645 kg, respectively. We are talking about a five-seater car with a spacious trunk of 430 liters.

Depending on the installation, the car will spend 5, 4 or 7, 1 liter of fuel per 100 km of run in the combined cycle (AI-95 gasoline). The fuel tank holds 42 liters of fuel. This model is distinguished by good dynamics with acceleration to a hundred from zero in 8, 7 s in the light version and in 4, 8 s - in generations with a 2.0-liter installation. "Maximum speed" is limited to 215 and 250 km / h, respectively. In terms of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, the German complies with the Euro-6 standard.

Options and prices

For Russian buyers, the BMW 2-Series 2022 sedan is available in four trim levels Base, M Sport Pro, Online Edition and M Special. Depending on the version, the prices for the model range from 2,390,000 to 4,540,000 rubles. It is worth noting that most of the options in this car are installed additionally for a fee, regardless of the modification chosen by the buyer.

Base

This model can be purchased for 2,840,000 and 4,380,000 rubles with 1, 5 and 2, 0-liter engines, respectively. The equipment of this sedan by the manufacturer included the following options that are responsible for comfort:

M Sport Pro

In this configuration, the BMW 2-Series 2022 can only be purchased with a 1.5-liter "turbo engine" for 2,980,000 rubles. The model received an electronic parking brake, sports seats, a stylish body kit around the body, a wireless charger. All other more interesting options can be purchased for a surcharge, including a rear view camera, navigation, keyless entry and much more, depending on the preference of the buyer.

Online Edition

In fact, this is a lightweight BMW 2-Series package. You will have to pay 2,390,000 rubles for such a car. The car is sold only with a 1.5-liter turbocharged power unit. Here, the same equipment is provided as in the base, with the only exception that there are no front parking sensors, and a stylish decorative body kit around the perimeter of the body is not installed on the model.

M Special

Today it is the most expensive modification of the BMW 2-Series, costing 4,540,000 rubles. The sedan in this design is equipped with only a 2.0-liter unit with 306 horsepower and all-wheel drive. The equipment, in addition to the standard set of options, the manufacturer has included a head-up display, electric front seats, keyless entry, wireless charging, adaptive cruise control, a rear-view camera, as well as bolts for fastening the wheels.

Safety

The German BMW 2-Series 2022 Gran Coupe passed the IIHS safety test in six aspects and received an overall rating of “Good”. The German proved best of all in a frontal and frontal collision, where the minimum number of suspected injuries for the driver and adult passengers was recorded with an "Excellent" rating. The model showed itself somewhat worse in terms of the protection of child passengers with a score of "Good". Optimum performance was achieved when testing the equipment. This was achieved due to the presence of a collision avoidance system. The model also showed good performance in terms of the protection of pedestrians and other vulnerable road users.

Handling and off-road performance

What can really be noticed about this car is its excellent handling. And this applies not only to all-wheel drive models, but also to front-wheel drive generations. The sedan holds the road well, regardless of the quality and condition of the road surface. The driver will be impressed with the driving dynamics as well as the lightning-fast steering response. In addition, it is worth mentioning about the excellent maneuverability thanks to the small size and thoughtful tuning of the suspension system, which Bavarian engineers worked on. The car behaves well not only on paved roads, but also on a dirt road, as well as when driving over rough terrain. Considering the size of the clearance of 152 mm, it is stupid to meddle on the off-road on such a car. Even the xDrive all-wheel drive won't help here.

Advantages and disadvantages

We can talk for a long time about the advantages of this model, however, it is worth highlighting only the most significant among them. The most significant plus is security. The sedan really showed impressive results, even despite its compact dimensions and seemingly frail body. Also worth mentioning is the luggage compartment and the interior capacity. There is plenty of room inside the car both in the front seats and in the back for passengers. Here, even tall people with a dense physique will be able to sit quite comfortably without stiffness and accompanying discomfort. In this case, it is impossible not to talk about the cons of the car, which can be safely attributed to the all-wheel drive xDrive, which in rainy weather or in snow does not justify the expectations assigned to it. In addition, under excessive loads, this is where problems and the need for repairs most often arise.

Design

What the German model really impresses is with its looks. The design of the sedan turned out to be both unusual and, at the same time, quite recognizable. The German engineers managed to achieve this result due to the detailed study of the body geometry and the introduction of cutting-edge technologies. In general, the car looks impressive and defiant around the perimeter, which necessarily guarantees attention on the public road, even despite the quite compact dimensions of the car. The interior of the German looks pretty standard with a cold approach to the layout and style. There was enough space for everything - both decorative elements and recognizable interior components. Upon landing, it is immediately clear that you are driving a BMW, given the build quality and the pragmatic layout.

Sales start

In the current version, the German model appeared on the Russian automotive market in February 2020, three months after the official premiere. As for the initial release of the car in the first generation, this happened somewhat earlier, namely in March 2014. It is worth recalling that in addition to sedans, variations in coupe versions are also implemented in Russia.
