The DS series appeared in 2009, because the PSA concern for a long time could not bring its own premium brand to the market. Since it was not possible to divide the Citroen and Peugeot brands by price niches, it was decided to isolate the DS series and launch production as a separate premium brand, following the example of Acura, Infiniti or Lexus. The DS 4 was presented at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and went on sale in 2011. It was positioned as a more expensive version of Citroen C4, and in 2015 the car underwent restyling and a small rebranding, after which it began to be called its current name.
Style and high quality
The car belongs to the size class C and is built on the very familiar and well-known platform PF 2. On the same cart are built: Peugeot 307, Citroen C4 of the first generation and some other models. The car turned out to be much more expressive than co-platforms, and even won a small market share. In the same 2015, he got a version of the Crossback, the differences with which in a regular car in a pseudo-off-road skirt, a radiator grill and a difference in ground clearance of 30 mm.

All configurations of the new 2019 DS 4 model, as is typical of the premium segment, are richly equipped. In the photo, the car looks very impressive and modern. Judging by the reviews, buyers liked them. The manufacturer allows you to customize the appearance of the car body as much as the buyer wants. For this, there are nine body colors, four roof color options and several wheel rim options, seventeen, eighteen or even nineteen inches in diameter, which do not differ very much in price.
The car is equipped with four gasoline and three diesel engines of different families. Three gearboxes are available to them. In the simplest configuration, a considerable number of active safety systems are available: ABS, ESP, EBD, BAS, AFU, ASR.
From passive safety systems and assistants there are:
- assistant at the start of the rise,
- fastenings for Isofix child seats,
- six airbags,
- signaling of unfastened seat belts,
- immobilizer,
- LED fog lights,
- electromechanical handbrake.
The following solutions are responsible for comfort:
- power windows,
- electrically adjustable and heated mirrors,
- steering wheel adjustment,

- remote controls for the audio system and cruise control on the steering wheel,

- a portable flashlight is provided in the trunk.
All cars are equipped with a stowaway, not a full-size spare wheel. Many options are offered for a surcharge or in more expensive trim levels. If you order some additional functions, then an excellent multimedia system appears with a touchscreen monitor, eight speakers and a Denon subwoofer, as well as navigation, support for the Mirror system (using this system, you can display the image from the smartphone screen, on the multimedia system screen) Link and Apple Car Play.
For a surcharge, the following solutions are established:

The range of engines consists of gasoline and diesel engines. There are four gasoline engines in the lineup. The smallest belongs to the new PureTech family. This is a three-cylinder turbocharged power unit with a volume of 1.2 liters, 130 horsepower and 230 Newton meters of torque. Its consumption is 5 liters in the combined cycle. Other gasoline engines are the EP6 series, developed jointly with BMW.
The entire series is a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 150 to 210 horsepower and a torque of 240 to 275 Newton meters. Fuel consumption for this series ranges from 6 to 7.5 liters per hundred in the combined cycle. Three four-cylinder turbodiesel power plants of the BlueHDi series, two of them have a volume of 1, 6, and the third two liters.
The power of the first two was 100 and 120 horsepower, and the torque was 254 and 300 Newton meters. Fuel consumption is approximately four liters on the combined cycle. Two-liter engine with 180 horsepower and 400 Newton-meters of torque, consumption is 4.5 liters in the combined cycle.
There are three gearboxes - two mechanical and one robotic. The weakest gasoline engine is aggregated with a five-speed manual transmission. The rest are paired with a six-speed mechanics, or with a six-speed robot. Both manual transmissions are developed by PSA and are manufactured in its factories. The robotic box with one clutch is designed and manufactured by the Japanese company Aisin. It is designed for installation in vehicles built on the new French EMP platform.
DC 4 2019 is assembled on the PF 2 platform, the last generation C4 was assembled on the same platform. The chassis is the same as that of the other soplatforms in the front: independent, spring-loaded, McPherson type with an anti-roll bar, a semi-dependent torsion beam at the rear. Design
After restyling and renaming, the car lost its Citroen branded chevron, received a new radiator grill with the DS logo and new LED optics. The exterior of the car at the front has become a little more aggressive. Now he is also more stocky. The old version was 30 mm taller than the previous one, and the Crossback version is to be high. The rear doors add style. They are not immediately striking thanks to the door handles hidden in the pillars, which very harmoniously complement the window opening with a chrome frame.
In general, DS 4 2019 is distinguished by an abundance of chrome in the elements of the exterior and interior. Almost everything is chrome-plated, from the radiator grille to the chrome-plated rear skirt surround. In general, the outside of the car turned out to be very bright, with a defiant and individual appearance.
The interior decoration, especially of the most expensive versions, is immersed in luxury relative to classmates. Even some old American cars can envy the abundance of chrome. All deflectors, steering wheel, door handles, gearshift selector and many other small parts have chrome edging.
The dashboard and door cards in the expensive versions are upholstered in a combination of leather with straight stitching, and the seats have a combination of leather and Alcantara upholstery. The dashboard contains an analog speedometer, a tachometer and a fuel level sensor inside which the on-board computer screens are located. By the way, the panel has eight backlighting options from white to dark blue.
On the center console, depending on the configuration, there is either an MP3 tape recorder or a multimedia system with a touch screen. Below is the climate control unit. A feature of this salon can be called sun visors protruding from the ceiling. They, in turn, are also a curtain for the panoramic roof.

conclusions
The goal when creating DS 4 was to make the design as striking as possible, while not losing, but on the contrary, to increase comfort and preserve practicality as much as possible. The manufacturer practically succeeded in this. In any case, the attempt is extremely successful. The competitors of this creation are called the British Mini and the brainchild of the big three, that is, the BMW 1-series, Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz A-class. The VW Golf GTI and, until recently, Scirocco also fit in here. It is now out of production.
The four are supported by the price, appearance and practicality, inherited from the Citroen C4 co-platform, as well as the widest range of engines and gearboxes that can satisfy the needs of many buyers of this class of car. But, perhaps, the main trump card is the ability to customize the appearance of the car according to the owner's requests, which can only be provided by one competitor (Mini). The rest are not able to boast of variations in body and roof colors. True, the DS brand is still not so well-known, but this is a matter of time.
