The Ford Expedition looks set to be the next model in the brand's lineup with the proud ST badge on the grille. While ST usually denotes a more sporty character, some cars are expected to be designed for other purposes. This is evident from the latest batch of Expedition ST spy shots.

New Ford Expedition ST

The new photos show an SUV towing a large trailer. But that doesn't mean Expedition ST won't be fast. New rumors suggest the model could offer up to 475 horsepower when it goes on sale. The ST powertrain details are still a mystery though. Currently available for the Expedition 3, the 5-liter twin-turbo V6 develops 400 horsepower. The Lincoln Navigator has an engine output of 450 hp.

Whatever engine the ST gets, Ford will pair it with a 10-speed automatic transmission. In this case, the car will be able to accelerate 96 kilometers per hour in a five-second range. While the SUV continues to wear a slight camouflage pattern on the front and rear, likely hiding a modest design update. Other design features include large 22-inch wheels, red brake calipers and twin exhaust. It looks like the car will receive the same stylistic differences as the Explorer ST model.

We expect Ford to introduce the Expedition ST relatively soon. The partial lack of camouflage suggests that the company is close to an announcement, and we hope to see it before the end of the year, although Ford hasn't given any hints. The Ford ST badge is familiar from the Focus and Fiesta models, although they are no longer available in the US. The nameplate is taking on a new lease of life in the crossover and SUV era, and Expedition looks like an attractive addition to the brand's lineup. It will be joined by another version of Timberline, which is also under development.
