Not so long ago, a rather amusing event took place in the United States. Ford has applied to the relevant authorities to register the Skyline trademark in the country. And, apparently, the company is preparing a crossover under this name. After all, the application belonged to the category of land vehicles, namely SUVs and trucks.
Actual Nissan Skyline
At one time, Ford already had a car that bore the name Skyliner. Despite the consonance, it was not an SUV. And almost anyone at the word Skyline associates it with the famous blue two-door sports car, actor Paul Walker and the Fast and the Furious franchise. Therefore, Ford's decision looks somewhat strange. But Nissan did not stand aside nevertheless. And no, they didn't file a lawsuit, they just registered the Skyline trademark in the United States.

It would seem that the name has already been taken by Ford, but that was not the case. Nissan Motor has registered the brand to cover the vehicle model and minicar categories. The key word here is "models". As this applies to toys and scale cars. Along with the bid, Nissan has submitted four photographs showing the R34 GT-R and 25GT-X models. It looks like Nissan wants to keep the name for future toys as Ford has already taken the name for real cars.

It is not yet known what Ford will do. Perhaps some details will appear in the near future. Nissan itself continues to sell the Skyline in the Japanese market. In Russia, it is available as the Infiniti Q50 and Q60 (coupe and sedan, respectively), but the future of the car is still uncertain as crossovers become more and more popular. Despite the fact that the Nissan Skyline was never officially sold in America, everyone knows it well there. And not only thanks to the films of the famous franchise, but because it was imported in small batches into the country. And it would be weird to see the Ford Skyline if it ever comes along.
