Great Wall unveiled its new premium off-roader Tank 500 at the Chengdu Auto Show yesterday. This model with a profile frame structure is similar to the Land Cruiser 300, which it will likely compete with. Moreover, it is already clear that the Japanese SUV will be less popular than the Chinese one.
For example, Great Wall today opened the reception of pre-orders for the first batch of the Tank 500, consisting of 1,000 vehicles. The entire volume was sold out in less than one minute (more precisely, in 56 seconds). Against this background, the sales of the pre-reform Land Cruiser 200 look "stingy". The low demand for the Japanese model is due to the fact that it is not assembled in China, but is imported into the Celestial Empire ready-made. In this regard, LC 200 is sold here at a price exceeding 7 million rubles (in terms of the current exchange rate).
As a reminder, the Tank 500 is a 5070mm frame SUV that is currently only powered by a supercharged 3.0L engine. The maximum output of this motor is 354 hp. It comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission, electrically controlled four-wheel drive and several differentials. The Chinese novelty stands out for its excellent off-road capabilities: it can overcome water obstacles up to 800 mm deep.
At the same time, the Tank 500 offers premium comfort. Its interior is trimmed with quality leather. A virtual instrument panel and a 14-inch touchscreen monitor, expensive acoustics, and a three-zone climate are installed inside. There are also panoramic glazing and decorative aluminum inserts, which frame, among other things, an analog clock built into the center console.
