The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will go on sale in the US this winter, not the fall originally planned. The automaker has already updated its website with a new date. Motor1.com has reached out to Hyundai for more information on the reason for the release date. It's unclear if the microchip shortage is to blame.

In the US, the model comes with a battery with a total capacity of 77.4 kWh. Customers can choose from either a single 225 hp engine driving the rear wheels or a 320 hp twin-engine all-wheel drive system. The Ioniq 5 targets a range of 483 km for the rear-wheel drive version. The all-wheel-drive SE and SEL variants can travel about 433 km, while in the Limited version this figure is reduced to 393 km. It is reported that the model's battery is capable of charging from 20 to 80 percent in about 18 minutes.

The Ioniq 5 is available in SE, SEL and Limited trims. The cost of each of them has not yet been announced. Six body colors are available: Phantom Black, Cyber Gray, Atlas White, Digital Teal, Lucid Blue and Shooting Star matte gray. For the interior, there are three color options to choose from: obsidian black, dark gray / bluish gray, and dark turquoise / bluish gray.

Hyundai is currently developing a performance-oriented N variant for the Ioniq 5. Powertrain changes are still a mystery, but the Kia EV6 on the same platform is available with up to 576bhp. So the company has the opportunity to improve the performance of the model. The Ioniq 5 N, shown earlier in the spy photos, will receive improved brakes and thin-spoke wheels. Suspension upgrades are also expected. It's not clear when the Ioniq N will go on sale in the US. A delay in the standard model may mean that the advanced version will have to wait a little longer.
