Despite the fact that some representatives of the automotive market still equip their cars with manual transmissions, one does not need to be clairvoyant to understand that the future belongs to the “automatic”. The management of the largest auto companies is well aware of this, gradually removing from production the cars with a gear lever that are familiar to everyone. Hyundai has just announced the discontinuation of yet another three-pedal car from its lineup. Alas, fans of the Accent sedan will not see an updated version with a manual gearbox next year.

According to information from CarsDirect, the compact sedan will only be available with an automatic transmission. Which tells us that the starting price of the 2022 Accent will add roughly $ 1,300. Without the manual transmission, the price for the standard SE trims will start at $ 17,670. This year's model with a six-speed manual transmission costs $ 16,400. Considering the price of the sedan, an increase in the price by $ 1,300 at once can be called significant in order to spoil the mood of every fan of budget Hyundai, especially when such strong competition is concentrated in this class of cars. But the Korean manufacturer assures that this will not affect sales in any way.

Even with the price increase, the Accent will remain the cheapest Hyundai model in the US. About two years ago, the Korean sedan was significantly redesigned. One of the innovations was the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine capable of developing 120 horsepower and 153 Nm of torque. This unit is highly fuel efficient.

It should also be noted that the Accent in the United States can now be bought exclusively in the sedan body, because the hatchback production was stopped back in the 2018th model year. Two years later, the model was completely abandoned in Canada. The Elantra remains there as the entry-level sedan.

Next year, the only transmission available for the Accent will be Smartstream Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), Hyundai's own fully automatic transmission.
