Hyundai has announced an ambitious electrification strategy for its lineup at the Munich Motor Show. This approach also implies a complete abandonment of internal combustion engines in favor of environmentally friendly motors. At the same time, Hyundai is not going to focus exclusively on electric cars. Along with electric models, the Korean manufacturer plans to produce fuel cell vehicles.
Hyundai already has a hydrogen powered Nexo. This crossover in the next 2 years will survive the planned change of generations. Together with Nexo, a hydrogen tractor will soon be on the market. But the released plan indicates Hyundai intends to launch a fuel cell minivan.
The report does not say what kind of model it will be. It is more likely, however, that Hyundai's recently debuted Staria will make the first fuel cell minivan. Moreover, as expected, such a version of the Korean model will appear in 2022.
Recall that the Staria is currently equipped with a 2, 2-liter supercharged diesel engine, which develops no more than 177 hp. net power and 431 N * m of torque. For a surcharge, the car receives a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter unit with a maximum output of 272 hp. and a thrust of 331 N * m. Staria is expected to come with a hybrid setup at a later date.
Note that Hyundai has announced plans to launch production of a hydrogen SUV as well. This car will join the lineup of the Korean brand after 2025. Hyundai has not revealed any details about the first hydrogen-powered SUV. But it will probably be a model similar to the Palisade.
