Lexus is considering various options for updating its own lineup. One of the solutions the Japanese manufacturer can make is the launch of a new crossover based on the Toyota Yaris Cross. The future compact SUV will be located in the lineup one step below the current UX.

The Japanese novelty will be built on the GA-B platform, which underlies the Yaris Cross. The compact crossover from Lexus is planned to be delivered to the same markets as its prototype: European, Australian and domestic. In addition to the platform, both models must share the motor range. In particular, the new product from Lexus will receive a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder power unit.

Note that rumors about the development of a cheaper crossover by a Japanese premium brand have been circulating for a long time. But so far Lexus has not made any official statements on this matter. However, last year the Japanese manufacturer filed a patent application with a European bureau for the LBX and Lexus BX trademarks. These names are believed to be reserved for the new compact crossover. However, according to other information, these trademarks are registered for a certain concept.

According to rumors, the debut of the compact crossover from Lexus will take place in 2023. Such a model will cost less than 30 thousand dollars. Most likely, if production starts, the new crossover will immediately receive a hybrid power plant. This will allow, firstly, to comply with the requirements of European legislation in terms of environmental friendliness of cars, which will soon be tightened again. And, secondly, by introducing a hybrid installation, Lexus will thus be able to smash its own crossover and Yaris Cross into different classes.
