Like virtually all manufacturers in the world, Jaguar Land Rover is currently experiencing an acute shortage of semiconductors. But if other brands because of this reduce the volume of production or suspend the assembly of cars, the British concern decided to take a different path. Jaguar Land Rover, due to a shortage of components, intends to abandon some of the modifications and deteriorate the performance of all its models.
Such a radical decision by the manufacturer is likely to have a negative impact on sales. The fact is that the models of the Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover brands are distinguished by the fact that they have a rich set of on-board electronics, which controls almost all the nodal components, including the transmission and engines. That is, it cannot be ruled out that the manufacturer will not just remove some of the options, but worsen the characteristics of the motors.
However, representatives of the British company do not announce what changes will be made. Moreover, they do not name the time frame during which the production of cars with deteriorated characteristics will be established. Jaguar representatives stressed that all planned changes will be announced long before the start of production of cars with new modifications. At the same time, JLR added that cars supplied to different markets will undergo such modernization. Therefore, it is possible that models of the British brand with deteriorated characteristics will reach Russia.
Note that Jaguar Land Rover was not the first company to take such a step. Back in April 2021, Peugeot decided to deteriorate the characteristics of its cars in order to reduce the shortage of semiconductors.
