Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the new Citan compact van. Sales of the German model on the European market will start next month. The appearance of new items in Russia has not yet been confirmed.
The new generation Citan, like its predecessor, is a redesigned version of the Renault Kangoo. Therefore, it is not surprising that the German model is equipped with a French engine. Under its hood is a 1.3-liter supercharged unit with 101 or 129 hp. A turbo diesel engine is also available with the Citan, which, depending on the modification, produces up to 74, 94 or 114 hp. All three versions of this unit are installed on the Citan truck version. The German compact MPV in the Tourer version is equipped with only a 94-horsepower turbodiesel.
Mercedes-Benz said the Citan has improved noise insulation and cabin comfort as part of a generational change. Complete with a compact van, depending on the version chosen, they will offer an air conditioning system, an electronically controlled parking brake, a keyless entry system, an engine start button and other options. The complete list of equipment will become known closer to the start of sales.
Visually, the new Citan is quite reminiscent of the Renault Kangoo. However, Mercedes-Benz has equipped its compact van with branded head optics and a radiator grill, which distinguish this model from the French one.
According to rumors, the German concern will also release an all-electric version of the Citan. In this case, the car will receive a battery that will provide a power reserve of 285 kilometers. The release date for this version of the German model has not yet been published.
