Mazda has applied to register a new trademark "Mazda R". This name will be used for future models of the Japanese brand, equipped with powerful motors and hybrid installations with rotary engines in the base. This is reported by the Japanese media. They add that Mazda does intend to use the trademark on future vehicles, rather than registering it for copy protection purposes.

According to the published script, the prefix "R" will be added to the name of all "charged" models. And we are not talking about completely new cars, but already produced ones. That is, in the near future, the market may enter, for example, a "charged" crossover Mazda CX-5 R.

The registration of the new trademark can be called unexpected in light of the recently changed development plan of the Japanese company. Its representatives said that Mazda is not going to return the "charged" models of the MPS line to the world market. Moreover, the Japanese company has no plans in principle to produce high-performance cars.

In this regard, another option for the development of Mazda is not excluded. It will use the new brand to divide the lineup into cars with internal combustion engines and hybrid installations based on rotary motors. Units of the second type are currently still under development. In this regard, it is not surprising that a new trademark has been registered just now.

It is already known that Mazda is preparing a hybrid installation in which a rotary engine will be responsible for recharging the battery. The cars will be driven by electric motors. This will allow the company to create hybrid models with a long range.
