In 2022 or 2023, Mazda will introduce a new generation of the CX-5 crossover, which may change its name to the CX-50. At the same time, the manufacturer has already started testing a pre-production prototype of the future model. Thanks to the published photos, the designers managed to recreate the exterior of the crossover. Judging by the renders presented, the exterior of the Japanese model will remain the same after the generational change.

Despite the transition to a new, rear-wheel drive platform, the Mazda CX-5, after the generational change, will retain the standard grille and head optics. However, the rear of the Japanese model will be lengthened, which will give the car a somewhat angular shape. At the same time, we can expect an increase in the size of the wheel fenders, which will be covered with an all-terrain plastic body kit. The front bumper will become larger. The designer placed vertical air intakes on its sides.

The rear bumper has diffusers of the same design. Because of their appearance, the luggage compartment door in the center bends inward. But the rear windows and stern lights also remained intact. The interior design of the new CX-5 has yet to be revealed. Most likely, the crossover will receive an 8.8-inch touchscreen monitor and a digital instrument panel.
After the platform change, the Mazda CX-5 will be equipped with 6-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines, including units of the SkyActive-X series, which are combined with a 48-volt starter-generator. In addition, full-fledged hybrid installations will be prepared for the Japanese model. According to information leaked to the Network, one of the modifications of the Mazda CX-5 will use a 3-liter turbocharged engine developing up to 286 hp. power and 340 N * m. It is combined with a starter generator. In addition to it, a turbodiesel of the same volume and power, but with a maximum torque of 600 N * m, will be prepared for the Mazda CX-5.
The initial versions of the Japanese model will be equipped with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine producing up to 190 hp. and 270 N * m. He is also entitled to "soft" hybridization. In other modifications, we can expect the appearance of a 2.5-liter turbo engine and a 2.2-liter turbodiesel, developing up to 231 and 190 hp, respectively.
