The 2022 Mazda 6 is, in fact, the same Japanese sedan that has been supplied to the Russian market over the past several years. In particular, the manufacturer has kept the old motor range for him, which includes 2- and 2.5-liter engines. The last unit is presented in two versions with different power. However, Mazda has revised its rival Kia K5 and Toyota Camry onboard equipment list, adding several new options. Now prices for a Japanese sedan in Russia start at 1.73 million rubles. By default, the Mazda 6 is equipped with an electronic parking brake, LED optics and standard security systems. In more expensive modifications, a premium stereo system, many driver's assistants and other options appear that significantly increase the comfort of the car.
The 2022 Mazda 6 is the latest version of the sedan popular in the past. Soon the car will receive a completely new body and platform, which will lead to a radical revision of the technical characteristics. It is expected that because of this, the configuration and prices of the Japanese model will change. At the same time, if you believe the rumors and render photos, outwardly the sedan will remain similar to its predecessor. During the planned generation change, the Mazda 6 will receive a new set of engines, including at least one hybrid unit. There is a possibility that the sedan will lose the current power units with which the car is being sold in Russia today.
In our country, Mazda 6 can now be purchased with 2 engines of the SkyActive line. In basic modifications, a 2-liter "atmospheric" unit is installed, which develops no more than 150 hp. power and 213 N * m of torque. It comes with a 6-band automatic transmission. Mazda 6 in this version gains the first 100 km / h in 10.8 seconds, consuming an average of 6.5 liters of fuel. In more expensive versions, a second 2.5-liter engine appears, which is presented in two versions. Its naturally aspirated version produces no more than 194 hp. power and 258 N * m of torque, turbocharged - 231 hp and 420 N * m. In both cases, a 6-speed "automatic" is installed on the Japanese sedan. Acceleration to 100 km / h in Mazda 6 takes 8, 2 and 7 seconds, respectively, average fuel consumption is 6, 9 and 7, 7 liters.
The length of the Japanese model reaches 4870 mm, width - 1840 mm, height - 1450 mm. The wheelbase is 2830 mm, the ground clearance is 165 mm. At the heart of the Mazda 6 are McPherson struts and rear multi-link architecture, which are paired with anti-roll bars.
Options and prices
As part of the latest modernization, Mazda slightly corrected the list of onboard equipment of the "six". Now the Japanese model is presented on the Russian market in six trim levels.
For the basic version of the Japanese model, they ask for a minimum of 1.73 million rubles. The 2022 Mazda 6 in this version offers customers optional paddle shifters (they come with all modifications for a surcharge), 17-inch aluminum wheel rims and all-LED lighting technology that is placed in a circle. Side mirrors are standard for the Japanese sedan, complemented by electric heating, servo-drive and LED direction indicators. In the salon of the basic version of the Mazda 6 you can find:
- multifunction steering wheel;
- 7-inch information display in the instrument panel;
- engine start button;
- electrically heated front seats with advanced lumbar support;
- 4 electronic windows;
- climatic equipment serving 2 zones;
- a stereo system with four speakers.
The Mazda 6 comes with cloth-covered seats by default. Responsible for the safety of the driver and passengers are wheel pressure monitoring sensors, 6 airbags, an assistant when starting on an uphill and emergency braking assistance systems, preventing slippage and preventing brake blocking. The basic version also provides a sport mode and cruise control.
For the second configuration, they ask for 102 thousand rubles more than for the basic one. Such a surcharge is provided for the appearance of head optics with the function of automatically turning on the light, rain-sensitive "wipers" and a leather braid on the steering wheel. The Active version is optionally equipped with a heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors. In addition, the specified amount included a multimedia complex that combines 6 speakers and an 8-inch touchscreen monitor. Inside the sedan, a mirror with an automatic dimming function and separate air vents for second-row passengers appear. And for a surcharge, you can also purchase navigation.
Together with the Mazda 6, 2 optional Supreme packages are available in Russia. A sedan with a starting one is available at a price of 1.97 million rubles. This amount includes:
- sun blind on the rear windows (option);

In the cabin of the Japanese sedan purchased with this package, decorative leather inserts appear. The second optional set, due to which the price of the Mazda 6 increases to 2.092 million rubles, additionally offers electric front seats with memory function and heated second row of seats with a steering wheel. Also included with this package are seats with leather trim.
This configuration, estimated at 2.59 million rubles, is interesting in that a 231-horsepower engine is available only with it. Also, the 2022 Mazda 6 in this version acquires a premium stereo system with 11 speakers, sun blinds on the rear windows, an electric sunroof and ventilated seats of the first row.
Available with the 2022 Mazda 6, this all-new package features original styling and 100th anniversary decals. A sedan in this design costs almost 2.33 million rubles in Russia. Together with this version, there is an optional regenerative braking system. In addition, the buyer of a sedan in the maximum configuration gets LED fog lights, as well as all the optional safety systems (including adaptive cruise control) that came with the Supreme packages. In addition, in this version, side and front view cameras become standard, and the body color palette is complemented by an original shade of white.

The Mazda 6 is considered a safe vehicle, as evidenced by the crash test results. The Japanese sedan protects the driver and front passenger with a 95 percent chance of a frontal impact. For children sitting in the back, this figure drops to 91%, which is also one of the best results on the market. However, in the course of a crash test, experts found out that built-in security systems do not always work effectively. Moreover, the lane keeping assistant caused complaints, who was awarded 2 points out of four possible. The experts also noticed that the structure of the front part of the body does not protect pedestrians at all in the event of a collision with them.
Handling and off-road performance
Due to the 165mm ground clearance, the Mazda 6 is completely unsuitable for driving outside of a flat surface. Although the Japanese sedan is equipped with an anti-slip system that prevents it from getting stuck in the mud. But on the track, the Japanese model, according to several experts who conducted test drives, behaves great. The fact is that the wheels of the Mazda 6 seem to stick to the road. They keep the car on a straight line and when making sharp maneuvers. But this feature is fraught with one drawback: hitting even a small stone is given in the cabin. On the other hand, the Mazda 6 is practically the best sedan in its class in terms of road stability.
The advantages of the Japanese model include its athletic behavior, which manifests itself when the appropriate mode is connected. Moreover, this feature is typical for all engines, both for the base and for the turbocharged. This mode in Russian conditions is good for making fast overtaking on the track. At the same time, the Mazda 6 is not designed to travel on bumps. In particular, speed bumps must be passed by at a speed of up to 30 km / h. In addition, the sedan is equipped with a torque vectoring system, which adjusts the redistribution of thrust every 5 milliseconds in accordance with the position of the steering wheel and the current speed. Largely due to this feature, the sedan is practically screwed into corners without losing its trajectory.
Advantages and disadvantages
Among the advantages of the Japanese sedan are the following:
- excellent maneuverability and controllability;
- the presence of a sports mode;
- powerful motors for such a car;
- traction vectoring system, which keeps the machine on the selected trajectory;
- reliable suspension and motors;
- economical fuel consumption.
The main drawback of the Japanese model is the low suspension and dense wheels, which is why minor bumps are given in the cabin. It is also facilitated by a too soft stroke.
The Mazda 6 still comes in a minimalist body style. The exterior of the sedan is practically devoid of stamping stripes: they are present only on the long bonnet. In front of the Japanese model, there are elongated headlamps, inside which there is a round LED lamp. The sedan retains the polygonal grille with wide metal piping and the sporty bumper with gentle curves on the sides that overhang the trim strips. At the rear of the Mazda 6, the old lights are fixed, connected to each other by a metal plate. And in the rear bumper there are round exhaust pipes on the sides.
The interior of the Japanese model is kept in the same minimalistic style. Inside Madza 6, the buttons are placed only on the steering wheel and climate control unit. Most of the on-board electronics are controlled through a touchscreen monitor mounted like a tablet on top of the front panel, or through a large washer on the transmission tunnel. One of the main features of the Mazda 6 is a comfortable seating position available to passengers in the first and second rows. This is partly due to the long wheelbase, thanks to which people's legs do not rest on the backs of the front seats.
The last time Mazda 6 acquired only new configuration and equipment. Therefore, the Japanese model in this form has been presented on the market for the past several years.
