The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is likely to be the latest version of the popular Japanese model. The manufacturer is preparing this crossover for a planned generational change, after which the car can go under the CX-50 index. But until the transition to the new generation has taken place, Mazda CX-5 offers buyers in Russia 2 branded engines with a volume of 2 and 2.5 liters, combined with all-wheel drive. The Japanese model is available in our country for a minimum of 1.811 million rubles, which is comparable to the price of VW Tiguan and Nissan X-Trail. Like these crossovers, the basic version of the Mazda CX-5 is characterized by "poor" equipment. But for an extra charge, the list of on-board equipment of the Japanese model expands with all-round cameras, a premium stereo system, leather seats and a variety of driver's assistants.
Mazda CX-5 2022 has retained the same design. In particular, the crossover did not receive a new body, which is why, judging by the photo, it does not differ from its version that came out about six years ago. At the same time, Mazda has seriously revised the configuration, as a result of which the prices for the Japanese model have increased. But the technical characteristics of the crossover also remained unchanged.
The basis of the Japanese model is still the same: McPherson struts are placed in the front, and multi-link architecture in the back. Recently, the former have been supplemented with softer springs and lower arms, which are fixed to the subframe using hydraulic supports. At the same time, the manufacturer has previously increased the torsional rigidity of the body, thereby improving the level of passive safety. Also among the features of the Mazda CX-5 is the fact that the steering rack is rigidly fixed to the subframe. This improves the information content of the vehicle and increases the sensitivity.
In Russia, the Japanese model is offered with the same "atmospheric" engines of the SkyActive series, as in the past several years. As a standard, the crossover is equipped with a 2-liter engine that develops no more than 150 hp. power and 210 N * m of torque. This unit is combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission, consumes no more than 6, 8 liters and provides acceleration to 100 km / h in 10 seconds. Optionally, under the hood of the Mazda CX-5, a 2.5-liter 194-horsepower naturally aspirated engine is placed, which produces up to 257 N * m. Together with this engine, the crossover gains 100 km / h in 9 seconds and consumes an average of 7, 2 liters of gasoline. Both engines are optionally equipped with four-wheel drive.
In a number of countries, the Mazda CX-5 is also presented with a 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine. Its declared power is 175 hp. with a maximum pulling moment of 420 N * m. With such a unit, you can purchase a 6-speed manual transmission.
The total length of the Japanese model reaches 4550 mm, width - 1840 mm, height - 1680 mm. The wheelbase is 2700 mm, and the ground clearance, depending on the modification, varies between 210-215 mm.
Options and prices
Recently, the Mazda CX-5 has been presented in Russia with five trim levels. The manufacturer added the Century Edition modification, which became the top-end for the crossover.
The basic version of the Japanese model is estimated in Russia at 1.811 million rubles. This version comes as standard with an incomplete spare wheel, a 4-speaker stereo, air conditioning, 4 power windows, electric front seats and remote central locking. You can also purchase with the starter kit:
- satellite signaling (option);
- anti-lock braking system;
- an assistant when driving uphill;
- slip warning system;
- active stabilization control system;
- 6 airbags (including curtains);
- external mirrors with electric heating and servo drive;
- LED lighting technology.
The basic version also includes an electronically controlled parking brake, an engine start button and 17-inch steel wheels.
The second complete set on the list will cost 2.094 million rubles. In this version appear:
- aluminum rims of wheels of the same radius;
- front LED "fog lights";
- headlights with light sensor (option);
- rain-sensitive wipers (optional);
- luggage door servo (option);
- multifunction steering wheel with leather rim;
- first row seats with developed lumbar support.
The Active version is optionally supplied with seats with a combined trim, heated steering wheel and an electric drive in the driver's seat. This configuration includes a constant speed control system, dual-zone air conditioning and a frontal collision avoidance function, which is offered at an additional cost. A six-speaker stereo system is responsible for comfort, as well as a touchscreen monitor and navigation, which are available for an additional fee.
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 in the Supreme version, estimated at 2.39 million rubles, acquires a salon mirror with auto-dimming function, a rearview camera, a touchscreen monitor, as well as systems:
- frontal impact prevention capable of stopping the crossover;
- recognition of road signs;
- adaptive road lighting;
- tracking "dead" zones (optional);
- high beam control (optional);
- hold in the lane (optional).
This equipment is distinguished by a wide list of optional equipment, which, in addition to these systems, also include:
- electric trunk drive with contactless opening function;
- premium stereo system with 10 speakers;

- electric drive of the first row of seats with location memory;
- electric heating of the second row of seats;

In addition, front and rear parking sensors are supplied as standard with the Supreme version.
The penultimate version of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 costs 2.775 million rubles. For this money, the buyer gets a crossover equipped with side and front view cameras, a premium stereo system, the previously mentioned optional security systems and heated all rows of seats. The front seats are complemented by ventilation and an electric drive with a memory function. There's also a boot servo, head-up display and keyless entry. And the seats in this configuration are covered with leather.
The top version of the Mazda CX-5 in 2022 in Russia costs 2.92 million rubles. This modification brings with it special decorative elements that adorn the interior and exterior, and a 7-inch digital instrument panel. In addition, with the purchase of a crossover in this version, the number of body colors is increased and adaptive cruise control is added.

The Mazda CX-5 stands out from the competition with a reinforced design that provides a high level of safety. According to the results of crash tests, the Japanese model scored the maximum number of points. Active on-board electronics, which can prevent frontal and side impacts, contribute to this a lot.
Handling and off-road performance
The Mazda CX-5 is not a passable crossover. But its high ground clearance and active four-wheel drive allows you to operate the car off-road, including after rain or during snow melting.
On the track, the Japanese model demonstrates excellent dynamics and handling. The rigidly bolted steering rack to the subframe provides precise feedback. However, this arrangement requires constant attention from the driver. Compared to the Tiguan, the Japanese model is not as comfortable at long distances. At the same time, the Mazda CX-5 stands out for its maneuverability: the crossover body does not skid even with sharp turns.
Advantages and disadvantages
Among the advantages of the Japanese model are the following:

The main disadvantage of the Mazda CX-5 is the overpriced. For the same money that is asked for the middle and top-end versions of the crossover, you can buy a more equipped Nissan Murano or Lexus NX in Russia.
The body design of the Japanese crossover is designed in the corporate style of Mazda, which has not changed over the past several years. The car stands out for its sporty and sleek body, with its smooth transitions and voluminous details. At the front, the Mazda CX-5 has a narrow head optics, which has a round headlight in the center. In the center there is a large grille with a fine mesh and a wide metal edging. The front bumper is complemented by a thin strip of the air intake, which narrows more towards the edges. By the nature of the performance, the rear optics are not much different from the head.
The interior of the Japanese model has a minimalist approach to design. Inside the crossover there is a compact touchscreen monitor, placed close enough to the windshield, and a large climate control unit with physical keys. The transmission tunnel runs at a noticeable angle in relation to the center console. This configuration of the cabin provides him with good ergonomics.
The Mazda CX-5 last time acquired only new trim levels and on-board equipment. In this regard, the car has long been presented on the Russian market.
