Opel held an official presentation of the new generation Astra. The sixth generation hatchback has undergone major changes, due in part to the transition to a different EMP2 platform, borrowed from the Peugeot 308.

One of the main features of the German novelty is the unique body design. Astra is designed in the style of the previously debuted Mokka and other Opel crossovers. The car lost the radiator grille, which was replaced by a lacquered insert, and received a tapered head optics with L-shaped LEDs, a sporty front bumper with a large air intake and compact but long taillights.

After the change of generations, the Astra became 4 mm longer, reaching 4374 mm. The wheelbase has grown by 13 mm to 2675 mm. And the width of the hatchback increased immediately by 51 mm to 1860 mm. The luggage compartment of the novelty is 422 liters.

The interior of the Astra is designed in a simple and functional style. Most of the built-in functions are operated via a 10-inch touchscreen display, next to which is a similarly sized digital instrument panel. The German novelty comes complete with head optics with 84 LEDs. Also offered along with the Astra are intelligent cruise control with Stop & Go support, head-up display and 360-degree cameras.

Astra buyers are offered a wide range of engines, which includes turbocharged diesel and gasoline engines. Their maximum output ranges from 110 to 225 hp. Optionally, a hybrid system can be purchased with the Astra, presented in two configurations. Depending on the type of engine, a 6-speed "mechanics" or an 8-speed "automatic" is installed in the hatchback. Astra sales in Europe will start in the fall. Later, a station wagon with an enlarged cargo compartment will enter the market.
