Opel has recently released a teaser for the next generation Astra. That picture showed that the car will be designed in the corporate style of Vizor, in which the Mokka crossover was previously presented. Now the manufacturer has officially declassified the entire engine range of the new Astra. The German hatchback will become faster and more economical after the change of generations.

It is already known that the Astra will move to the EMP2 platform, which Opel has provided with the Peugeot-Citroen alliance. This architecture is versatile: it allows the use of different types of motors. Thanks to this, the Astra will receive several hybrid units. For the first time, the German hatchback will be equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. Together with him, a 108-horsepower electric motor will be installed on the car. Together, both units will be able to produce up to 178 hp. power.
Later, the Astra will enter the market with a similar hybrid unit, whose power will be increased to 222 hp. It will also include an 8-speed automatic transmission and a battery that provides an electric range of approximately 60 kilometers.
In addition to hybrid installations, the German novelty will receive 2 standard internal combustion engines. By default, Astra will be equipped with a turbocharged engine with a volume of 1.2 liters, which develops, depending on the modification, up to 108 or 128 hp. Optionally, the German model will be equipped with a 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine with a maximum output of the same 128 hp. Each of these engines will be combined with a choice of 6-range manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. The date of the debut of the new generation Opel Astra has not yet been announced. But it is known that this model will also be released in the Touring version with an elongated body.
