For the first time, Opel has published photographs that reveal the exterior of the new generation Astra hatchback. At the same time, the manufacturer confirmed that the German model will be electrified after the generation change (photo: int-media.opel.com).
Released photos show the Astra will feature the recently debuted new Vizor styling. It provides for the replacement of the grille with a smooth black panel and the installation of the original adaptive head optics with L-shaped LED strips. A similar design was previously "tried on" the Mokka crossover. The published photographs also partially reveal the stern, on which a new inscription with the name of the German mark has appeared.
It is reported that the Astra will be similar to the Mokka not only in appearance. The new hatchback will borrow from the crossover 10- and 12-inch digital dashboards and a 7- or 10-inch touchscreen monitor. Thanks to such changes, the interior of the German model will be simplified as much as possible. Almost all of the controls for the onboard electronics will be transferred to the touchscreen display. At the same time, the air conditioning unit will be made in a simplified style. In the published photos, you can see the steering wheel with a button for activating the adaptive cruise control.
Opel has not yet disclosed the technical details of the new Astra. It is expected that, thanks to the transfer of the car to the EMP2 platform, it will receive several gasoline and diesel engines, a hybrid installation with a plug-in module. In addition, Opel will continue to produce the Astra as a station wagon. The official debut of the new generation German model will take place in the next few months.
