Opel Astra is one of the most popular models of the German brand. The launch of its production started in 1991. It was then that the manufacturer developed the first generation of the model. And now, exactly 30 years later, the German concern is preparing to release the sixth generation of the car.

From now on, Opel, part of the multinational Stellantis group, will rely mainly on technology developed by PSA engineers to create the Astra. Apparently, from a technical point of view, the new generation model will be quite similar to its “cousin” Peugeot 308, which was presented a few months ago. But at the same time, the design of the Astra will be completely different, different from the French hatchback.
New Opel Astra
Not so long ago, the German manufacturer published the first official teaser images of the new Astra, which, together with the previously presented “spy” shots of the model, give us a good idea of what to expect from the new product. An independent domestic designer has combined all the pieces of the puzzle into a single picture and presented to the public two renderings in which the model can be seen both from the front and from the back.

In the new generation, the Opel Astra will be offered with electrified transmission options for the first time. So far, the manufacturer has not provided any data on the technical characteristics of the engines. But if they get to the German model from the Peugeot 308, then we can expect at least two plug-in hybrid versions, each of which can provide about 60 km of range in all-electric mode.

With regard to standard internal combustion engines, here, most likely, the manufacturer will offer options with 1, 2-liter gasoline engines and 1.5-liter diesel units. By the way, auto experts are confident that a high-performance version of the Opel Astra OPC is also currently in development. The manufacturer will allegedly present it officially some time after the debut of the standard model.
