The 2022 Mitsubishi L200, like its predecessor, offers 2 all-wheel drive options, each of which supports 6 driving modes and is combined with a mechanically locked differential and an electronic transfer case. The Japanese pickup, which belongs to a completely different market segment, surpasses the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in off-road capabilities. At the same time, the car is inferior to the Hilux in terms of durability. In Russia, Mitsubishi L200 can be purchased for a minimum of 2.5 million rubles. Together with the Japanese pickup, a 2.4-liter turbodiesel is supplied, presented in two modifications of different power. The basic equipment of the Mitsubishi L200 is characterized by "poor" equipment, while in the top-end versions you can find a rear-view camera, electric heating of everything, multimedia, leather seats and other options.

Specifications

The 2022 Mitsubishi L200 retains the new body that it received 3 years ago. Visually, judging by the photo, the car began to resemble the last Pajero Sport, with which it shares a frame chassis. Last time, Mitsubishi slightly adjusted the configuration and prices of the L200, leaving its specifications unchanged. As before, the Japanese model is represented in Russia by one motor.

The basis of the pickup is a front spring suspension on double wishbones with anti-roll bar and a rear dependent structure, presented in the form of a continuous axle on leaf springs. At the same time, the configuration of the Mitsubishi L200 base has been improved in terms of handling and driving performance. As before, the body parts are attached to a sturdy base frame.

Standard Mitsubishi L200 is equipped in Russia with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel engine. In the initial versions, this unit produces up to 154 hp. net power and 380 N * m of torque. Together with him, the Japanese model consumes an average of 7, 1 liters. In the top versions, an 181-horsepower version of the base turbodiesel appears, developing up to 430 N * m. In this case, the average fuel consumption is 7.5 liters. Both engines are combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and the base one can also be equipped with a 6-speed "mechanics".

The Mitsubishi L200 comes with 2 all-wheel drive transmissions. In both cases, the vehicle is equipped with an electronically controlled two-speed expansion box and a locking rear differential. The size of the brakes also varies depending on the type of modification selected. In this case, the drum is always located behind. The total length of the Mitsubishi L200 is 5225 mm, width - 1815 mm, height - 1775 mm. The wheelbase reaches 3000 mm, the ground clearance is 200 mm.

Options and prices

The 2022 Mitsubishi L200 is presented in Russia in four trim levels. With the two initial versions, the buyer has access to a multi-mode all-wheel drive Easy-Select 4WD, with the top-end Super Select 4WD.

The initial version of the Japanese model, estimated at 2.5 million rubles, offers power steering, 16-inch steel wheel rims, halogen head optics and LED taillights. The exterior mirrors of the pickup in this version are mechanically adjusted. Also, by default with Mitsubishi L200 you can purchase:

Safety

The updated Mitsubishi L200 received zero points in the crash test, which was conducted in Latin America. Local experts noted that the Japanese model does not at all protect the driver and passengers, including children sitting behind, in case of a frontal impact. After such a collision, even at moderate speeds, the probability of receiving damage incompatible with life reaches almost 100%. Slightly better results were shown when testing side impact protection.

However, a "lightweight" version of the Mitsubishi L200 is being sold in Latin America. In particular, the pickup is devoid of airbags in the basic versions. Tests in Europe showed different results. But here, too, the Mitsubishi L200 was not as safe as many expect from a frame pickup.

Handling and off-road capabilities

The Mitsubishi L200 offers buyers exactly the features that buyers expect to see in a pickup truck. So, the Japanese model, due to the increase in the power of the turbodiesel engine, easily bypasses cars that move uphill. The built-in automatic transmission changes gears quickly enough, which improves acceleration dynamics. At the same time, it is impossible to brake with this box. Mitsubishi engineers also improved the ride and handling of the pickup. In particular, the car has become more confident in cornering with minimal body roll. However, the steering wheel does not provide good information content.

The smooth running of the Mitsubishi L200 raises questions. If the car is driving empty on a rough road, the cabin starts to shake violently. But when loading the rear platform, this disadvantage does not bother. On the other hand, the Mitsubishi L200 is extremely efficient off-road. The car overcomes most of the sections, including difficult ones, due to the high ground clearance and active all-wheel drive. The driver rarely needs to engage the transfer case and differential lock. The advantages of the Mitsubishi L200 in comparison with the Toyota Hilux include the fact that the first model allows you to use four-wheel drive on smooth asphalt. This makes the car better at cornering.

Advantages and disadvantages

Among the advantages of the Japanese model are the following:

• reliable engine and design;
• durable suspension;
• high ground clearance;
• 2 active four-wheel drives that can be turned on on smooth asphalt;
• spacious cargo platform;
• efficient checkpoint;
• low fuel consumption for pickups;
• lack of noticeable rolls when maneuvering;
• good sound insulation, which is especially pronounced off-road.

At the same time, the Japanese pickup truck is relatively expensive to maintain. Also, the disadvantages of the car include the exactingness of the engine to the quality of fuel, uninformative steering and overpriced.

Design

The Japanese model, after a series of recent upgrades, has acquired a sporty appearance. Responsible for this is the protruding front part of the body with a narrow head optics, which, as it were, is a natural continuation of the radiator grille. The latter is almost completely covered with wide metal strips. Under it is a rectangular air intake with a fine mesh. On its sides there are decorative metal inserts that go around large blocks of additional LED lights. At the stern of the Japanese model, large lamps with LED filling are installed.

The interior of the Mitsubihi L200 is relatively simple. However, in the top version, the interior space is abundantly covered with leather, which is found not only on the seats, but also on the armrest and steering wheel. The pickup retained its massive center console with many physical buttons and a relatively compact touchscreen. As before, the transmission controls are located in a tunnel behind the gearshift lever, which is framed by a metal insert.

Sales start

Mitsubishi last reviewed the trim levels and slightly raised the price of the L200. Therefore, a pickup truck is now being sold in Russia, which entered the market back in 2019.
