It is probably difficult to find a more original and unusual car on the market than the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. This model combines sporty habits and looks, as well as the characteristics of a light SUV, which are possessed by the much larger Nissan X-Trail or Mazda CX-9. The manufacturer managed to achieve such properties by equipping the SUV with an all-wheel drive system, which adds confidence to the driver when driving outside the asphalt. At the same time, the "price tag" of 2.413 million rubles for the basic configuration looks quite contradictory and much higher than the cost of the car's closest competitors. However, unlike the classic first generation, the restyled version is now able to please with a variety of power plants, because the developer has also added a 2-liter naturally aspirated engine to the usual 1.5-liter turbo engine.

Technical characteristics
With its quirky new body style, the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross looks brighter and fresher than the bulk of its competitors. In addition, the Japanese model has very decent technical characteristics, which smoothes out the unpleasant perception of the overpriced and not the largest selection of available trim levels. Photos of the restyled version of the cross, which recently debuted on the Russian market, are available in this review.

As a result of the restyling, the SUV has somewhat added in length, but does not fundamentally differ from the standard version of the first generation Eclipse Cross. The car is built on the already familiar architecture, which allowed it to be equipped with independent suspensions at the front and rear. The main innovation proposed by the manufacturer for the updated SUV-representative is the ability to choose between two powertrain options. In the basic version, the crossover relies on a 2-liter petrol engine that produces 150 horsepower and is paired with a variator, as well as a front-wheel drive system. For the most expensive modification, the developer left the familiar 1.5-liter turbo engine with a capacity of 150 "horses". A pair of him in this case is a variator gearbox and an all-wheel drive system.

Such characteristics make it possible to accelerate the cross to the first "hundred" in 11, 4-11, 9 seconds, and the average fuel consumption is in the range of 7, 7-8 liters of AI-92 gasoline. As for the dimensions of a Japanese car, these include:
- Body dimensions - 4545x1805x1685 mm.
- Number of seats - 5
- Vehicle weight - 1535 kg.
- Center distance - 2670 mm.
- The ground clearance is 199 mm.
- Gas tank - 63 liters.
- Luggage compartment volume - from 331 to 1058 liters.

Safety
All Japanese automakers are famous for producing cars equipped with a variety of safety systems that can not only protect the driver and passengers in difficult times, but also try to avoid accidents on the road. For example, the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is equipped with all kinds of electronic assistants, as well as a full set of airbags, an ISOFIX attachment system, and ERA-GLONASS functionality for calling assistance on the road. Data on how safe the crossover is, as part of the crash test carried out using the ANCAP method, is available as of 2017. Then the first generation of the SUV took part in testing and earned the maximum possible score - 5 stars.

Handling and off-road performance
Despite the fact that the Japanese crossover has a sporty and stylish appearance, it cannot boast of any serious dynamics. But the car's handling, thanks to a reliable suspension, built-in electronic assistants and a reconfigured steering system, is very decent.

At the same time, a decent level of ground clearance and an all-wheel drive system allow the driver to confidently move off the asphalt surface while driving a Japanese car. Of course, the crossover will not be able to conquer serious off-road terrain, but it is quite capable of overcoming small obstacles and bumps outside the track.

Advantages and disadvantages
If we talk about the main advantages and disadvantages of the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross SUV, the former include:
- the presence of regular off-road capabilities due to the all-wheel drive system and decent ground clearance;
- high level of safety, confirmed by the results of crash tests;
- the ability to choose between naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines;
- availability of components.

The list of shortcomings of the model can be added:
- rather high cost, as for a model of this class;
- weak dynamic characteristics of the SUV;
- not the most spacious interior dimensions.

Design
If we talk about the appearance of the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, then this crossover was the first in the company's lineup to try on a new front end design. So, the SUV received a different front bumper, in which massive niches appeared on the sides, where blocks with LED optics were placed. These changes have contributed to the reduction in the size of the headlights. The radiator grill has also become narrower, the filling of which is represented by two horizontal slats. But the air intake integrated into the front bumper, on the other hand, turned out to be wider than before. From the side, the car stands out with several raised lines running through the rear fenders and doors of the crossover, as well as the rising sill line. Its rear visually looks much higher than the front. At the top of the stern is a rear spoiler that acts as a protective visor for the rear window. The trunk door is quite compact in size, and it is completely invisible against the general background of the car.

The salon, by analogy with the exterior, also received a non-standard design. Due to the original layout of the front panel, it seems that the upper part of the console seemed to hang over the crossover tunnel. The arrangement itself of the available control systems is standard. In the upper part there is a display for controlling the built-in functionality, and under it is a climate control unit and keys responsible for activating certain systems.

Sales start
A restyled variation of the Japanese crossover went on sale in the Russian car market in early 2021. The manufacturer added configurations equipped with a naturally aspirated 2-liter engine, which increased their variability. The cross is supplied to car dealerships in the Russian Federation ready-made from Japan.

Competitors
The Eclipse Cross's main rivals include the Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4, KIA Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
